Abstract :

The Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) is a voluntary, autonomous, multidisciplinary board that provides direction for and administers the certification process for professionals in infection control and applied epidemiology. CBIC was founded in 1981 and is the largest certifying body for infection prevention and control (IPC) professionals in the world. CBIC has certified over 10,000 individuals worldwide. CBIC offers several certifications, including the Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) credential, which has certified individuals in over 47 countries. When developing CBIC’s strategic plan, the Board of Directors outlined the following objectives to implement over the next three years: 1. Expand accessibility to certification for professionals responsible for infection prevention across settings. 2. Reduce disparities in infection prevention through a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. 3. Promote the value of demonstrated infection prevention competence. The strategic plan for CBIC serves as a roadmap for the development of future certifications, including a new advanced certification in infection prevention and control to be released in 2025. An advanced certification in infection prevention and control is essential for promoting patient safety, reducing healthcare costs, and preparing healthcare professionals to address. current and future infectious disease challenges effectively. Certified specialists play a pivotal role in improving healthcare outcomes and protecting public health. Today’s presentation will provide examples of how CBIC has implemented the above objectives, how others can get involved with CBIC, and will share details on the future of board certification in infection control.
