In this talk, the author will discuss the use of keratin waste from animal hair, such as wool, with its inherent hierarchical structure contributing to its structural complexity and non-biodegradability, as a starting material for developing novel applications and products with a high-end value. Using discarded wool and other animal fibres has the added advantage of being a renewable feedstock for developing sustainable technologies for the future. The basic process under research, dissolution of hair, also offers significant benefits to forensic science, as human hairs are a common item of evidence.
