Abstract :

Hair (color, strength, and volume/length) is a major component of a personâ??s general appearance and self-perception. There are millions of dollars spent on remedies ranging from vitamins to special tonics and shampoos in order to treat different hair disorders. The role of nutritional factors in trichology is still debatable and there is a need for more research to be subjected in this direction. The bases of the research of these nutritional factors playing a role in different hair disorders stems from the fact that human hair has a high turnover and the active metabolism requires good supply of nutrients and energy. It has been stated in many articles that the nutritional status of an individual is not adequate and therefore it leads to different hair disorders such as telogen effluvium, alopecia, dry hair, weathered hair and greying of hair. Research regarding nutritional supplementation in different hair disorders is inconclusive; i.e., research exists for benefit as well as for no benefit. So, is the solution to hair problems that simple? It is a unique topic involving literature encompassing opinions of different experts worldwide. Information incorporated: bases of addition of nutritional supplements in different hair disorders, evidence carried out till date. Most scrutinized literature was collected from different sources including PubMed.
