Abstract :

Summary : We report a clinical case of an unrecognized bronchial foreign body complicated by condensation and hemoptysis syndrome in a three-year-old child. Our goal is to report this clinical case under the clinical, paraclinical and therapeutic challenges and compare them with the literature. We learned from this experience that inhalation of bronchial foreign body is a serious and frequent occurrence in children aged 1 to 3 years, predominantly males. It can present as a respiratory emergency [1, 2,3]. The diagnosis is often suggestive of penetration syndrome [4]. Unfortunately, these symptoms can go unnoticed or through negligence exposing the child to serious respiratory complications such as bronchial dilation, pulmonary condensation syndromes, etc. [5] Extraction by rigid tube bronchoscopy is necessary and also avoids serious consequences such as extensive lung resections [1]. Extracting these sharp and potentially penetrating types of foreign body is a challenge that requires special attention. Conclusion The unrecognized bronchial foreign body remains a therapeutic challenge in our underdeveloped countries. There is no doubt that with awareness and health education, the morbidity of such accidents can be better and quickly managed in our region. Keywords: nail inhalation; intra-bronchial steel tip; bronchoscopy emergency.
