The aim of the study is to study the hemodynamic parameters under increased volume load during pregnancy in women with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. 42 Pregnant IDDM women who came to diabetic research center anantapur, India between June 2012 to August 2013 aged 24+-6 are taken for the study and 42 healthy pregnant women are studied as control group. In all these pregnant women left ventricular mass, mitral flow, pulmonary venous flow and left ventricular diastolic function were analyzed. During pregnancy left ventricular mass increase and left ventricular dysfunction was found. Healthy pregnant diabetic women developed signs of disturbed relaxation at the beginning of gestation. 29 pregnant diabetic women developed restrictive filling pattern at 24th week of gestation. 10 of 29 pregnant diabetic women developed dangerous complications. While there were no complications in healthy pregnant women and other 22 pregnant diabetic women. In healthy women pregnancy results in reversible physiologic left ventricular hypertrophy, a disturbed relaxation pattern and temporary decrease of ventricular systolic functions. In contrast pregnant diabetic women showed a delayed relaxation at the beginning of the pregnancy and developed restrictive filling pattern. The early development of restrictive filling pattern indicates complications during delivery in pregnant diabetic women.
