The possibilities of using alcohols and their compounds as biofuels

Abstract :

The article compares selected properties of considered biofuels in relation to diesel oil. The possibilities of using of ethanol, heavy alcohols, methyl tert-butyl ether and ethyl tert-butyl ether, methyl and ethyl esters of higher fatty acids and ternary mixtures (bioxdiesel) in a diesel engines were presented. Both benefits and difficulties resulting from its use were discussed. The different possibilities of applying the ethanol alone or in a mixture with diesel oil as fuel in diesel engines were presented. Required changes in construction, control of engine and sometimes in ignition system according to using variant were taken into account. The homogeneity of the fuel blends depending on temperature changes were discussed. Then the benefits for the environment resulting from the using of biofuels were showed at this study. At the end the possibilities of applicability of particular biofuels were summarized.
