Significant progress has been made in the field of vaginal surgery over the past decade. Due to its many advantages for patients (including faster recovery and fewer postoperative complications) and the health sector (including lower cost compared to traditional abdominal surgery), radical vaginal surgery can certainly represent interest for any gynecologic oncologist in current practice. The objective of our presentation is to demonstrate the operation technique and the efficiency of radical vaginal hysterectomy (Schautaâ??s operation) for the treatment of cervical cancer. We also present a case series of patients to whom the Schauta procedure was performed by the gynecologic oncology team at Medical Center Innova, Tbilisi, Georgia. We conclude that the laparoscopically assisted Schauta procedure (radical vaginal hysterectomy) is a valid option for treatment of early-stage cervical cancer, providing equal morbidity than the laparoscopic operation (radical laparoscopic hysterectomy) with non-inferior survival rates
