Dr. Ruchi Srivastava is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Irvine. She is a viral immunologist by training with specialization in infectious diseases. Dr. Srivastava joined the University of California, Irvine in the year 2013, her current research at University of California, involved studies in the field of HSV immunology, investigating humoral and cellular immune responses, epitope mapping and the development and optimization of vaccines against herpes simplex virus type 1 and type 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2). She received her PhD in Biotechnology from India. In this period, she developed a rat model of Japanese encephalitis. The rat model of JE seems to be more suited to study the sequential changes. During her first postdoc (2010-2013) at Beckman Research Institute, City of hope, Duarte, California, she assessed the contribution of immune pathology to development of fatal flavivirus encephalitis and developing novel immunotherapeutic strategies. The study is clinically relevant as there is no treatment for WNV infection.
