Mycobacterial toxicity

It refers to the infections caused by mycobacterium strains in living organisms. Mycobacterium toxicity includes all the poisonous chemicals liberated by mycobacterium in their hosts to cause disease.

Mycobacterium leprae liberates various toxic compounds which ultimately lead to the contagious skin disease, leprosy, in human. Till date, there is no preventive remedy for leprosy.

Although the disease causing mycobacterium species donot liberate any toxic substance as such but is has a specific virulent structure that causes disease. Some virulent characters of mycobacterium includes its structural and physical properties such as its mechanism of entering in the cell, its morphology, its chemical nature and its intracellular growth property.
