Radiation biophysics provides an in-depth description of the physics and chemistry of radiation and its effects on biological systems. Radiation biophysics concerns itself mainly with the physical and chemical primary processes, and biological effects are attributed to them. Further neighboring fields are radiation chemistry and photobiology: the former because radiation-induced chemical alterations generally initiate the biological-metabolic radiation effects, the latter because visible and especially ultraviolet light is often able to generate effects similar to ionizing radiation.
