Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease in which body’s own immune system destroys the body cells and tissues. It occurs in females in higher frequency as compared to males. This is different from osteoarthritis that occurs on account of aging. It affects all the body parts like eye, ear, lungs, etc. except joints. The cause for the disease is still under research.
There is no single test for diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. Diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis can be done by joint imaging and by performing blood tests like Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), full blood count, rheumatoid factor,anti-CCP antibodies.
