Dr. Watts is the Director of the Emergency Medicine Preclinical Research Laboratories at the Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC, USA. His undergraduate education was at Drew University, New Jersey and his Ph.D. degree is from the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland. His postdoctoral training was at Hershey Medical Center of the Pennsylvania State University. He became an Assistant, Associate and Full Professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and has directed the Preclinical Research Laboratories in Emergency Medicine at the Carolinas Medical Center for the last 18 years. He Chaired the Research Committee and served on the Board of Directors of the Mid-Atlantic Affiliate of the American Heart Association and the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Association of Biomedical Researchers. He has authored or co-authored over 73 peer-reviewed publications and mentored numerous students and Residents.
My research aims to identify mechanisms of damage and therapies designed to improve the function of the right ventricle, distribution of blood flow through the lungs and regulation of pulmonary vascular tone in pulmonary embolism.
