Abstract :

Installations of grid-tied wind turbine systems have seen a great increase. Configurations with full power rating back-to-back two- and three-level neutral-point clamped (NPC) power converter PMSG show many advantages in comparison with their double fed induction generator (DFIG) based counter parts. In this work, we clearly formulate the control targets for both two and three-level back-to-back power converter PMSG wind turbine systems, and investigates the actual control techniques for such system which include: (a) Cascaded control schemes with modulators, (b) direct control with look-up table, (c) direct control with modulator, and (d) predictive controller for both the generator and grid sides. All these four control classes and their control block diagrams have been clearly depicted and illustrated.
