Intrauterine insemination is considered the first line of treatment when applicable and one of the safest, least invasive and cost-effective form of assisted reproduction. It is the process by which washed and concentrated sperms are placed in the uterine cavity around ovulation through artificial means. The Pregnancy rates per cycle with IUI have been reported 8-22% in various studies. Factors influencing pregnancy rates with IUI can be an age of female cause of infertility ovarian stimulation endometrial response collection of semen and parameters, semen processing methods timings of IUI, insemination technique number of insemination per cycle type of catheter etc. The success rates of IUI with natural cycles are 5-7%, and with fertility drugs, it is about 15%. A complete workup is required before taking up the patient for IUI. Proper selection of patients, pre IUI work up, judicious stimulation protocols, the technique of IUI and post IUI instructions can improve success rates.
