Medication Therapy Management (MTM) is a service group of services that optimize therapeutic outcomes for individual patient. It requires the collaboration between patient, pharmacist and other healthcare providers to ensure safe and effective use of medicines. In Malaysia, Medication Therapy Adherence Clinic (MTAC) was implemented in 2004 to enhance patientsâ?? adherence to medications and optimize drug therapy. The objective of this study was to explore the level of Penang pharmacistsâ?? knowledge regarding MTM and their willingness to apply MTM in the future. A cross-sectional survey was carried out among all pharmacists working at Penang General Hospital. A total of 93 out of 130 (71.5%) completed the survey. 74.2% were female and 61.3% were between the age of 20 to 30 years old. A majority were Chinese (68.8%). 88.2% were holding Bachelorâ??s degree and 48.4% were working in MTAC and outpatient pharmacy. 92.2% of pharmacists had a high level of knowledge regarding MTM and 86 pharmacists were interested to apply MTM. Logistic regression analysis between willingness to apply MTM and level of knowledge and personal characteristics showed that significant predictors of willingness to apply MTM were female (OR: 11.766, 95% CI: 3.019-45.853, P< 0.001), older pharmacists (OR: 0.266, 95% CI: 0.86-0.825, P=0.022) and inpatient pharmacists comparing to MTAC pharmacists (OR: 0.22, 95% CI: 0.003-0.156, P<0.001). Overall, the research findings provides insights regarding the Penang Hospital pharmacistsâ?? awareness and their willingness towards the implementation of MTM.
